Obama Works

the job: I was Obama Works’ Director of Outreach and Communications; I also was its de facto webmaster, graphic designer and coding staff.

imperatives: Help citizens feel included and engaged in the organization’s activities, and empower them to plan and execute independent service projects nationwide.

the result: obamaworks.org

bells & whistles: A post-election “service pledge” that allowed users to pledge hours to their community in the first year of the Obama administration, a clever event tracking system, and much more.

the verdict: Zero to national grassroots organization in a few months, and from two states to twelve.

notes: Obama Works has been much more than another web design project. It was a constant source of inspiration for me and the rest of our team as we worked to mobilize volunteers across the country to do meaningful community service, voter registration and visibility in support of President Obama’s candidacy. You can learn more at the Obama Works site.

the job: a new website, from the ground up

imperatives: make it clean, make it simple, let us update it easily

bells & whistles: full-featured article archive built on wordpress

the resultyale-jreg.org

the verdict: “you’re a god send.” – JREG editor-in-chief
